ABC-owned TV stations announce programming for Mental Health Awareness Month

ABC-owned television stations have announced their mental health awareness programming and will participate in “Mental Health Day of Action” on May 20.

What is happening:

  • ABC-owned television stations help raise awareness of mental health issues during Mental Health Awareness Month.
  • Audiences will discover month-long content and community events broadcast on ABC’s eight stations in:

    • Chicago
    • Philadelphia cream
    • San Francisco
    • Houston
    • Raleigh-Durham
    • Fresno
  • The station group today announced their participation in the first-ever “Mental Health Day of Action” to be held on Thursday, May 20.
  • The Mental Health Day of Action will feature same-day town hall discussions and exclusive content in each marketplace specifically focused on providing mental health experts and resources to the 1,590 local communities served by the station cluster.
  • The month kicks off with the broadcast of ABC11 / WTVD-TV Raleigh Durham “Eyewitness News investigates: the silent struggleMay 6 (5:30 p.m. EDT).

ABC7 / ABC-TV New York

  • The content broadcast throughout the month will focus on:
    • How support groups provided virtual service during the pandemic
    • Getting through grief, mental illness, anxiety
    • How racism has wreaked havoc on communities of color
  • While the tri-state region is slated to fully reopen on May 19, ABC7 will host a “Mental Wellness Matters” town hall on May 13.
  • Viewers can stream City Hall for free on WABC ABC7 New York app and connected TV applications.

ABC7 / KABC-TV Los Angeles

  • The network will broadcast weekly mental health awareness content.
  • Mental wellness issuesThe Town Hall will air on Thursday, May 20 (4:30 pm to 5 pm PDT), with partners and community mental health experts to answer viewers’ questions and share resources.
  • ABC7 is also a partner of:
    • UCLA Health
    • National Alliance of Mental Illnesses (NAMI)
    • Pacific clinics
    • San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center
    • Community based nonprofit organizations throughout Southern California.

ABC7 / WLS-TV Chicago

  • In addition to mental health-related content throughout the month, WLS hosts two series of virtual town halls, Our Chicago: Community Voices May 13 and 27.
  • Windy City LIVE is dedicating an hour to mental health on May 24 to include an open discussion with a panel of experts, a segment on mental health and wellness, and discussing the different mental health apps available.

6ABC / WPVI-TV Philadelphia

  • The network will air segments every Monday in May on a variety of mental health topics on the 5 p.m. newscast.
  • The station will broadcast a digital town hall ”,Take care of your mental health“May 20.
  • The town hall will be available on 6abc.com and through its 6abc Philadelphia News streaming app, with local and national resources made available to viewers.

ABC7 / KGO-TV San Francisco

  • One month’s content includes raising awareness of mental health issues throughout the Bay Area and providing local resources.

  • The network devotes a “ABC30 Set»Segment sharing stories through a multicultural lens on May 19, raising awareness of mental health challenges in communities of color, particularly the experience of Latin American communities.
