Who is Paddy McGuinness?

Paddy McGuinness is a comedian, actor and television presenter. Since 2018, he has co-hosted Top Gear, alongside former cricketer Andrew Flintoff and automotive journalist Chris Harris.

McGuinness made his television debut in 1995 on the game show God’s Gift and first made a name for himself as a young comedian in the late 1990s.

His big breakthrough, however, came in 2000, when he appeared alongside Peter Kay in Channel 4’s That Peter Kay Thing and Phoenix Nights, in which he played the stupid bouncer Paddy.

In 2004, he also starred with Kay in Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere, a Phoenix Nights spin-off.

McGuinness then broke into the TV presentation, replacing as a guest host of The Paul O’Grady Show in 2006. From 2010 to 2019, he hosted the popular ITV dating game Take Me Out, and he was Team captain in the 21 series of Celebrity Juice in 2019.

He was announced as the new presenter of the BBC’s A Question of Sport in July 2021. His other presentation credits include This Morning, Text Santa and I Can See Your Voice.

Where does Paddy McGuinness come from?

Paddy McGuinness was born in Farnworth, near Bolton, in 1973 to Irish parents in County Tipperary.

He attended the local Mount St Joseph High School, where he first formed a lasting friendship with his classmate Peter Kay. He now lives with his family in Cheshire.

In 2011, Paddy McGuinness married model and reality TV star Christine Martin (now McGuinness).

The couple first met when Christine was a model at a fashion show McGuinness was attending. They got engaged in 2009 and have three children together: twins Penelope and Leo (born 2013) and Felicity (born 2016).

Christine McGuinness has spoken openly about her experiences with autism as she and her three children were diagnosed with the condition.
