Petition asks TV stations to give Liam Reilly the recognition he deserves

An online petition has been launched calling on RTE and the BCC to give Dundalk musician Liam Reilly and his band Bagatelle the recognition they deserve.

an Aisling O’Leary launched the petition on and it has already garnered over 400 signatures in just two days.

“A year ago, Liam Reilly passed away and left a huge musical legacy behind – a musical legacy that needs and deserves to be properly recognized and honored,” she says.

“His song library, including his No. 1 songs, his emigration songs, is to be credited. And yet, a year later, none of the biggest TV/radio stations here in Ireland have granted him any form appropriate recognition.

She says that although there have been documentaries and tribute shows to other musicians, songwriters and poets, no such tribute has been paid to Liam, despite several approaches from his bandmates, management and promoters.

“And now we’re asking long-time friends/fans (and perhaps their friends) to contact some of the biggest radio and TV stations here in Ireland to urge them to give Liam some well-deserved coverage. “

Among those who signed the petition is Liam’s sister, Darina Reilly. She “cites her work, the man, the musicality, the charity work, the intelligence, the spirit, the fans, the fabulous lyrics and music…”. as reasons why he should receive this recognition.

“Liam Reilly and Bagatelle have dedicated their lives to Irish music and have been fantastic ambassadors for Ireland. Diasporas around the world are die-hard fans of the band, Bagatelle has brought their music, love, storytelling and joy to people all over the world and their music and lyrics have resonated with so many people as if telling their story. own history or that of their ancestors. . Each song had a real meaning. They deserve due recognition for their achievements and contribution not only to Irish music here and on the world stage, but to the very essence of what it means to be Irish,” another fan wrote.

“If the media doesn’t recognize incredible talent like Liam & Bagatelle then they are telling our young people they need to go overseas to be recognised. The loss then is the media and the people of Ireland,” said one another supporter. .
