Tennesséens invited to “evaluate the plates” and choose a new license plate design
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WVLT) – Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee urged Tennessee residents to “evaluate the plates” and help them choose the state’s next standard license plate.
This comes in honor of the state’s 225th anniversary.
Residents of Tennessee will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite plate design.
Under state law, the license plate is redesigned every eight years if funds are approved in the annual budget of the General Assembly.
“As Tennessee celebrates 225 years as a state, now is the perfect time to rethink our license plate and introduce the Tri-Star that represents each of our state’s unique major divisions,” Governor Lee said. “We invite all Tennesséens to vote and play a role in choosing this part of the history of our state.”
Tennessee law requires the display of “Tennessee”, “State Volunteer” and “”TNvacations.com“on the plaque, as well as the locations of the county name and year of expiration stickers.
The new license plate design will replace the current plate launched in 2006 with changes in 2011, 2016 and 2017.
The Tennessiens can start vote for the plaque now until Monday September 27. The winning design will be announced later this fall and available to the public in January 2022.
